Most online bingo games have a chat room so you can talk to other members while you are playing, in such rooms you’ll be known as your username as real names are rarely used online, this is for security purposes but it is reassuring to know that you could be sat talking to your real life neighbour and wouldn’t know it. These usually have Chat Moderators (often know as CMs or hosts) who make sure the chat stays friendly and are there to answer questions from members, their usernames will clearly show you who they are and their chat messages might appear in a different colour. The CMs often play games in the chat box, these vary from site to site but are usually very simple to follow and often award bonus credits to the winners, the credits can then be used to buy bingo cards.

You might come across some chat phrases, most are obvious but I’ve listed the most common and their meanings below

3tg – three numbers to go

2tg – two numbers to go

1tg – one number to go

gl – good luck

wtg – way to go

wdw(s) – well done winner(s)

lol – laugh out loud (generally means someone is joking)

You also might see symbols such as :-) or ;) just look at them sideways and you’ll see they are smiley faces or winks. It’s also common for “text speak” to appear such as evry1 meaning everyone, not all the members use this but it is fairly easy to work out. Don’t be afraid to join in the chat, it is very rare for someone not to be welcomed with open arms and you will soon start to recognise people and make friends if you use the same room or site regularly.
