Jefferson Counties Revenue Department, are trying to claim millions of dollars in sales taxes from a number of bingo halls are closed down earlier in the year.


The Revenue Department is looking for payment of the 2% sales tax, which comes to nearly $6.6 million from 12 the bingo halls, the amount of taxes being sought from 2 other bingo halls was not included in the court records.


After adding penalties and interest, the 12 bingo halls for which taxes have been disclosed are looking at a $7.8 million tax bill.


11 companies have filed appeals in Circuit Court appealing the county’s tax assessment, including two companies that it has been claimed by county officials, are connected to either jointly or separately 11 bingo halls.
