An Exeter man charged with burglary, has had his case dismissed from court after the police failed to provide prosecutors with the relevant evidence.

Darren Gibbons, of Wonford, had been charged with stealing money from the gaming machines at Mecca Bingo in North Street Wonford, to the value of £4,494.75.

No further action has been taken against four other people, who were initially arrested over the incident, which sparked a major police investigation. Police say they have launched an inquiry into what they called a “breakdown in communication.”

Alan Forshaw, general manager at Mecca Bingo, said: “I’m incredibly disappointed that the system has let us down. It seems like technicalities have prevented our day in court.”
