A recently advertised promotion from Sing Bingo, has found the company in hot water after a ruling from the Advertising Standards Authority.

The promotion, ‘Debt Free 2025′ offered players the opportunity to win a prize of having their bills paid to the tune of £200 a month, for a whole year, a total of £2,400.

The person who made the complaint felt that this prize was ‘unlikely to cover the debts of an average person’.

The ASA ruled that the promotional campaign was found to be “Both irresponsible and misleading” and to be in breach of 12 of the Committee of Advertising Practice Rules:

The advertisement was irresponsible as it suggested a possible solution to debt and financial problems. Reference was made to content on the promotional page that stated: “No more stress, no more worries and no more running away from the morning postman!”

The advertisement implied to readers that if they were lucky enough to win the promotion they would have ALL their bills paid for 2025. The ASA felt that the value of the prize was unlikely to pay the average person's bill for 12 months even though the prize value was clear on the Terms and Conditions accessible from Sing Bingo promotional page. The ASA felt that as it was a "significant condition" of the promotion it should have been part of the main body of the promotional text.

Sing Bingo are not allowed to show this promotion in its original form again and have to ensure that any further promotions offered do not imply a solution to financial concerns.
