The Pivot Strategy is a betting system used when playing roulette that requires the use of information collected for previous games played on the roulette table the strategy is being used on. The priciple being that the probability of any given number winning on a roulette table might not be as randon as the laws of physics and probability suggest, In theory, every number on an honest or balanced roulette table has exactly the same chance of winning as any other. However it is the fundamental basics of this thoery that the Pivot strategy questions in its practice.
Use of the pivot strategy requires the player to note every single win of previous games and identifying numbers that appear to be winning more regularly than the fixed probability odds would suggest is normal. As a rule, the chance of a single number winning more than once is 38:1 as there are 37 sectors on a roulette wheel that probability says have an equal chance of winning over 37 spins. The pivot Strategy assumes that any single number is most likely to win within 24 spins of the last time the ball landed on that number. This gives the player using the Pivot strategy an extra 13 spins worth of added value to each bet placed.
Use of the Pivot strategy requires the player to make a list of all the recent winning numbers from the roulette table being played. To identify numbers that appear to be winning more frequently than others and to bet on those numbers as soon as they are identified, in the belief that those same numbers will more than likely win again within the next 24 spins.
If a winning number is identified, it is believed that the number wagered upon will land again within the 24 spins considered the norm if using the pivot theory, but also knowing that probability suggests the same number is likely to win within 38 spins. This gives the strategist added value in that, if the pivot system proves correct they have made a 35:1 win in less spins than probability suggests, however if the win comes after the 24th spin but before the 35th spin the winning margin is smaller but will over all provide a profit.
The pivot strategy plays only on single number bets giving odds of 35:1 and is considered as one of the more risky strategies used by roulette players, the long term success of this strategy has led to much debate by other strategies that consider probability and mathematics as the basis for a successful roulette strategy.
